Tips for Choosing Auto Parts

First, check if the trademarks and logos are complete. Genuine products have high-quality packaging, clear lettering, and vibrant colors on the packaging box. The packaging box and bag should indicate the product name, specifications, quantity, registered trademark, manufacturer's name and address, and telephone number, etc. Some manufacturers also mark their own logo on the accessories. Some important components, such as generators, distributors, and fuel injection pumps, are also equipped with instruction manuals, certificates of conformity, and inspector's stamps to guide users in correct use and maintenance. When purchasing, carefully identify these to avoid buying counterfeit or substandard products.
Second, check for any deformation in the geometric dimensions. Some parts are prone to deformation due to improper manufacturing, transportation, or storage. During inspection, you can roll shaft-type parts along a glass plate to check for any light leakage between the part and the glass plate to determine if it is bent; when selecting clutch driven plates or friction plates, you can hold the plates in front of your eyes to observe if they are warped; when selecting oil seals, the end face of oil seals with a skeleton should be perfectly round and should fit against a flat glass plate without any bending; the outer edge of oil seals without a skeleton should be straight, and when you hold it to deform it, it should return to its original shape after releasing. When selecting various gaskets, you should also check the geometric dimensions and shape.
Third, check if the mating surfaces are smooth. During handling and storage, due to vibration and impact, burrs, indentations, damage, or cracks may occur on the mating surfaces of parts, affecting the use of the parts. Check carefully when purchasing.
Fourth, check the parts for rust. The surface of qualified parts has a certain degree of precision and a bright finish. The more important the parts, the higher the precision, and the stricter the rust and corrosion prevention packaging. When purchasing, check carefully. If rust spots, mildew spots, or cracks in rubber parts, loss of elasticity, or obvious lathe marks on the journal surface are found, they should be replaced.
Fifth, check if the protective layer is intact. Most parts are coated with a protective layer at the factory. For example, piston pins and bushings are protected with paraffin wax; piston rings and cylinder liners are coated with rust-preventing oil and wrapped in packaging paper; valves and pistons are sealed in plastic bags after being immersed in rust-preventing oil. When purchasing, if the sealing sleeve is damaged, the packaging paper is missing, or the rust-preventing oil or paraffin wax is lost, it should be returned or exchanged.
Sixth, check if the bonded parts are loose. For accessories composed of two or more parts, the parts are assembled, bonded, or welded together, and there should be no looseness between them. For example, the oil pump plunger and adjusting arm are assembled by pressing; the clutch driven wheel and steel plates are riveted together, and the friction plates and steel plates are riveted or bonded; the filter paper frame and filter paper of the paper filter are bonded together; the wire ends of electrical equipment are welded together. If looseness is found when purchasing, it should be replaced.
Seventh, check if the rotating parts are flexible. When purchasing rotating parts assemblies such as oil pumps, rotate the pump shaft by hand. It should feel flexible and without any jamming; when purchasing rolling bearings, support the inner ring of the bearing with one hand and rotate the outer ring with the other hand. The outer ring should be able to rotate quickly and freely, then gradually stop. If the rotating parts do not rotate smoothly, it indicates that there is internal rust or deformation, so do not purchase.
Eighth, check if there are any missing parts in the assembly. Regular assembly parts must be complete and intact to ensure smooth assembly and normal operation. If some small parts are missing from some assembly parts, the assembly parts will not work or even be scrapped.
